Paraquat Parkinson's Lawsuit

Our law firm is currently evaluating claims for injuries resulting from exposure to Paraquat and were subsequently diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. Researchers have recently attributed exposure to Paraquat to increased risk of developing Parkinson’s disease. Paraquat dichloride (paraquat) is a chemical agent most commonly used as an herbicide by farmers, ranchers, herbicide applicators, grounds keepers, gardners, municiple workers, and many others. If you or a loved one was exposed to Paraquat and were subsequently diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, please contact our law firm today as you may be entitled to financial compensation.

What is a Paraquat?

For many years, the preferred herbicide agent for American agriculture has been a product known as Roundup. As weeds and pest have become more resistant to Roundup, Paraquat has become the preferred herbicidal alternative. In a recent year, the United States sprayed 7 million pounds of Paraquat over nearly 15 million acres of land. Paraquat is a "Restricted Use Pesticide" and must be licensed in accordance to the EPA regulations and state laws.

Paraquat & Parkinsons

Researchers have recently linked and attributed exposure to Paraquat to increase risk of developing Parkinson’s disease. In a study sponsored by the EPA that re-evaluates all pesticides on a 15 year cycle, the EPA announced "There is a large body of epidemiology data on paraquat dichloride use and Parkinson’s disease." 32 countries have already banned the use of paraquat. This includes England and the other European nations along with China. The EPA is expected to release new information on the ban of paraquat.

Paraquat Parkinson's Injuries

Paraquat exposure can result in devastating health consequences for those who are exposed to the toxic pesticide, particularly licensed applicators who work with it on a regular basis. Parkinson’s disease is one of the most concerning risks associated with Paraquat, as the manufacturer has not adequately warned about this problem. It is believed that Paraquat creates oxidative stress in cells, which kills certain brain cells associated with the production of dopamine, which can lead to Parkinson’s disease.

Parkinson’s disease affects about 1 million Americans, and at least 6 million other people worldwide. The association between Paraquat exposure and Parkinson’s disease is so strong that scientists use Paraquat to induce Parkinson’s disease in animals for testing purposes.

Consult a Doctor on Medical Issues

Our law firm does not intend, by this web site or otherwise, to dissuade anyone from taking the advice of medical professionals and their doctors. Please consult your doctor, not your lawyer, on matters relating to your health.

If you or a loved one was exposed to paraquat and were subsequently diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, please contact our law firm today as you may be entitled to financial compensation.
