Serious injuries and complications are linked to Medtronic's Infuse® Bone Graft, especially when its used in
Infuse® Bone Graft
The Infuse bone graft is used to encourage bone growth, and is housed in a small container or cage that is implanted into the spine. Infuse is manufactured by Medtronic, Inc. and consists of the LT-Cage Device, a small, hollow metal cylinder, which is filled with a genetically engineered material that stimulates bone growth.
The FDA and Infuse®
In 2002, the FDA approved of the Infuse Bone Graft for use in lower spine-repair surgery to promote bone growth, however Medtronic has been accused of promoting the “off-label” uses of the Infuse product to healthcare providers. Many patients have received Infuse in off-label uses during surgery on the lumbar or cervical spine. When any drug or medical device, such as Infuse, is used by a physician in an off-label use, the surgeon must fully disclose to the patient of the risks of the off-label use prior to the surgery, so that the patient may make an informed decision as to whether or not he or she wishes to proceed with the surgery.
Many patients have reported experiencing serious problems, including:
- Uncontrolled bone growth at or near the site of the surgery
- Chronic radiating pain in the legs or arms
- Male sterility, retrograde ejaculation, or other uro-genital injuries
- Difficulty Breathing, Swallowing or Speaking
- Compression of the Airway
- Respiratory Depression
- Nerve Damage

Consult A Doctor On Medical Issue
The Steinberg law firm does not intend, by this web site or otherwise, to dissuade anyone from taking medication without their doctors' approval. Please consult your doctor, not your lawyer, on matters relating to your health. It could be dangerous to stop taking medicines, especially abruptly. Patients should talk to their physicians to decide whether the benefits and risks of Infuse bone graft make it the right choice for them.
